UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS –

An early morning University Heights fire left four people injured and sent at least two children to the hospital Friday.

Firefighters responded to the six-story apartment building at 2265 Davidson Ave. around 3 a.m.

Officials say 12 units with 60 firefighters battled the early morning blaze.

The fire was declared under control just over a half an hour after fire crews arrived.

News 12 is told four minor injuries were reported and at least two children were taken to the hospital.

Anita Obenewaa lives in the building and tells News 12 she was awoken by people yelling “get out.”

“We went to the emergency exit. If we had gone the other way, we would have been dead already,” says Obenewaa.

The Red Cross left notes on people’s doors just in case there’s anything they can do after their homes were torched by the flames.

The fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
